VIOLENCE BLIGHTS SENEGAL VOTE
February 22, 2007
Ten people were hurt when followers of Senegal's incumbent president and those of his former prime minister clashed in the most violent episode of the presidential poll campaign yet. Youths in loose-fitting robes bearing the image of an influential religious leader, Bethio Thioune, who supports President Abdoulaye Wade, attacked Idrissa Seck's convoy of cars as it drove through the Mermoz district of Dakar late Wednesday, witnesses said.
