An Oscar goes to Germany
February 26, 2007
"The Lives of Others", the first feature-length film from director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, won rave reviews for its portrait of a Stasi agent who bugs a famous couple's home, only to develop an unexpected sympathy for them. The Academy Award comes off the back of what some German directors have called a bumper year for Germany's domestic film industry.
