Deadly floods in Horn of Africa
November 21, 2006
Floods have killed scores and driven tens of thousands from their homes as villages have been submerged in the Horn of Africa. Roads and bridges have been washed away in south-central Somalia, making it difficult to get aid to victims still trapped and stoking fears of epidemic disease. Islamists who control most of the south of Somalia, challenging the Western-backed government's authority, have also appealed for international help to deal with the floods.
