International Polar Year Kicks Off

International Polar Year will officially be launched on Thursday, 50 years after the last one saw Sir Edmund Hillary charge to the South Pole. Thousands of scientists from more than 60 countries will be involved in more than 220 research projects focused on the future of the world's polar regions, especially the impact of global warming.
