Volcano close to eruption
November 07, 2007
Mount Kelud, also known to locals in Indonesia as 'the sweeper', is expelling steam and ash from its crater. The mountain has already pushed magma out through its craters, and boiling water has spilled down its sides. But many villagers remain in close proximity of the volcano and are reluctant to leave.Due to the high number of active volcanoes and intense seismic activity in Indonesia, the area is known as the "Pacific Ring of Fire".
