US charge Australian detainee
March 02, 2007
The U.S. military has filed charges against Australian David Hicks who's been held at Guantanamo Bay for five years without trial. The 31-year old is charged with "providing military support for terrorism." Hicks, who was sent to Guantanamo Bay following his capture in Afghanistan in 2002, has complained of torture and abuse at the U.S.-run prison. The Australian will be the first suspect tried under a new U.S. law authorising special military trials of 'enemy combatants.'
