You thought sports were dead now that football season is over? Well, think again. Sunday brings us the Greatest Show On Asphalt, the Daytona 500. Dozens of cars emblazoned with the logos of every brandname in the grocery store will spend hours turning left around a track. What could be more exciting than that? I’ll tell you - just down the street from all that racin’ is the NBA All-Star game. Watch overpaid divas in high-top sneakers give an 80 percent effort for the love of the league. Who said there are no sports between the Super Bowl and March Madness?

Growing up among the pine trees and deep-frying of the South, I couldn’t avoid getting bitten a little by the NASCAR bug. I know many people find it silly, but it’s true that few events rival the sights (and especially sounds) of 43 cars whipping around the track at full bore. This year the Sprint Cup (as it’s now called) should be better than ever. I’m planning on celebrating the start of the new season with 12 domestic longnecks and a heaping plate of barbecue.
