I’ve been beta testing the new 180×400 player for Voxant, but I’ve had very little feedback from other users.
This player ‘auto plays’ from one story to the next, which can only be good for your earnings.
Please, if you have any interest in this player, could you check it out and leave a few comments.
You can test the new player here
You can leave your comments either here in this thread, or on the forum over there. There is a link to the test thread posted on the beta test page and I’d warmly welcome any Voxant users who would like to join the forum over there.
Thank you.

Hi Nishanth.
It’s still in beta at the moment so the code isn’t available. There’s still a bit of fine tuning to be done. Once it’s released, the code will appear in your list of choices when you create a feed.
As far as text and image feeds go, that’s up to the tech guys at Voxant. I do know they are considering more players.
This new type of player is called a ‘Headline Player’ because it only shows the story headline, the actual stories (video in this case) open in a new window. This allows the player to be much smaller. I see no reason why the same technology can’t be applied to text and image players. However, text and images are paid each time they are rendered on your page. If you used a headline player for these, it would need to be clicked before the text or image would be rendered.
If anyone has ideas or requests, they should let their thoughts be known to Voxant here. I know they listen.

Martin,
I like the new player size and function, and it avoids the long load time of the other video players. One possible problem I’ve seen though is Firefox has crashed twice (different days) looking at your site with that player – I can’t tell if the player is the cause or something else.

Hi Douglas.
Thanks for that. Can you say how it crashed? Did it freeze the page, or just not work, or some other failure? What exactly happened?
I’ve tested it in IE6 and Firefox. I noticed a couple of odd behaviours (which I reported) but I never experienced a crash.
Finding intermittant faults is notoriously difficult, especially if there doesn’t appear to be any way to re-create the fault. I did notice on one occasion that the mouse wouldn’t click on the headline player, but it only happened once so I put it down to typical internet behaviour.

Just the typical Windows crash message: Firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close …..
It happens on the player embedded in the forum post. I was able to duplicate it tonight.

Thanks for that Douglas.
I haven’t been able to re-create the problem myself but I have reported it to the development team along with a link back to this thread.

I tested the site and player at the top of the post. 1.it was blocked by my popup blocker, I’m using IE7 2.when I Let it play all looked good , untill the time I went to change the viewing size percent on the bottom right hand side of the new window, if you change it to 50% it’s all messed up, you may want to look into that.

I like the concept, similar to Yahoo! video player (as stated). Good to keep on blogs where it doesn’t take up a lot of room…would work well for a side bar addition…and setting up a feed for this would mean that the site would update automatically, so one could just leave the code up…and worry about the rest of the site.
Nice.

Hi Del.
Thanks for that.
I don’t have IE7 so I’m not able to test for the sizing problem, but I’ve passed on your comments to the tech team at Voxant.
@Joel: Glad you liked it.

Hi Chris.
As far as I know there is no fixed date for the release. Like all beta testing, the problems have to be ironed out first.
This player is for video only.

Donnie, they’ve been an available code in the embed selection procedure for a week. You may have to scroll down to find the 180 X 400 choice. I’m using various topics for this player at http://Midday.ws – http://MiddayMOBI.com – http://MiddayForum.com – http://MiddayBLOG.com – http://ValUShop.us – http://Fanfairs.net and 3 other sites. Works neat. Mark
